168 grain vld loads

hi,its me again btw this is a great sight and very full of usefull info, anyway, do any of you have any good load data for the 168 grain berger vld? I have dropped the idea of the accubonds after very deep thought and playing with the ballistic calculator, finding out that the bergers shoot just as flat as the 140 accubonds even though they arent going as fast (gotta love that B.C):D and buck the wind better than anyting I have shot or even looked at, but seeing how this will be my new deer load and there is didly squat on the net for load data for this bullet. I was wondering if you could help me out thanks alot. oh ya iam shooting a remmy 700 in 7mm rem mag.

64.9gr 7828ssc in a rem 700 pss.
velocity is 3063 fps
fed large rifle magnum primers
pushed into the lands and grooves .004
works like a charm
 
thanks alot boys I emailed berger today they said a reloading manuel will be out soon but until then they will e mail me some loads so i will see how yours and theres compare and thanks again keep them comin.

These were seated to jam the lands a bit in my buddies rem 700 with a 26 inch kreiger 9 twist.
Velocity on my el cheapo chrono was around 3110 and the load shot 1/2 moa at 700 yards with very little verticle. This load was about 1/2 grain over quickloads predicted max load but showed no pressure signs. I would back off this load a bit before letting them rip. Good Luck.

thanks ed that exactly what i was looking for i just wanted something a little faster and flat shooting and you've solved my problem thanks.

I'm doing the opposite of you. I tried the Bergers and I couldn't seat them out far enough to still fit in the mag, so I'm switching to the 140 Accubonds.

I checked the ballistics first, and the Accubonds are a lot (10+ inches) flatter out to 600, with just a touch more wind drift, and a little less energy. So I'm not sure where you got your data from...

I checked several different bullets and the 140 Accubonds were pretty much the best all-around, now I just hope they shoot good out of my rifle.

the 140 doesn't out-perform the 168 vld at all. from 400 on out the 168 shoots flatter.

The 140 was awesome compared to all of them based on a 200 yard zero. I checked the 162 A-Max, 168 VLD, 160 AccuBond, 140 AccuBond, 150 TSX. Here is what I came up with:

140 AccuBond

Drop @ 600- 52.9"
Energy @ 600- 1508
Wind Drift 10 mph- 21.2"

160 AccuBond

MV- 2950
BC- .531
Zero- 200
Drop @ 600- 63.5"
Energy @ 600- 1484
Wind Drift 10 mph- 21.8"

162 A-Max

MV- 2900
BC- .625
Zero- 200
Drop @ 600- 62.4"
Energy @ 600- 1627
Wind Drift 10 mph- 18.5"

150 TSX

MV- 3050
BC- .408
Zero- 200
Drop @ 600- 66.0"
Energy @ 600- 1180
Wind Drift 10 mph- 28.7"

168 VLD

The VLD has 210 lbs more energy and drifts 3.3" less at 600 yards, but drops 9 inches more at 600 then the 140 AccuBond. The VLD is an awesome bullet, I'm not trying to talk you out of it or anything (I getting a .243 AI built to shoot the 105gr VLD).

That is using the ballistics calculator at Big Game Info. I was surprised at the results too, so maybe the calculator is messed up....
 
Maybe at your elevation.... but at mine, Your info is wrong on the 168 VLD....

What elevation are you at? Are those field tested numbers or with a calculator? I beginning to not trust these online ballistics calculators the more and more I use them...
