If you don’t have an 700 ultra mag receiver it will need to be modified slightly to feed the .338 RUM cartridge. To take full advantage of the .338 RUM, a Wyatt’s box will let you seat the bullets out further so you can have more case capacity with the heavier bullets. Also ammo is harder to find. I have a .338 WM and a .338 RUM. Truth be known, I like the RUM more, but I won’t shoot it with a muzzle brake. The WM recoil will also wear you but it isn’t as brutal as the RUM. If you shoot it a lot, the WM barrel will last longer. Reloading components are hard to find right now, and WM cases are more available. I bought 50 RUM cases at a out of the way gun store last week and they were the only ones I have seen in years. You can reform them out of .300 RUM cases if you you have to but they are almost as hard to find as the .338’s. I have enough of all three cases to last me for years. I only use them for hunting so I rarely shoot them more than a dozen times a year. The only exception is when my friends want to experience shooting them. BTW, I am building a .330 RUM switch barrel rifle on a M700 action.
