I assumed you might have a measurement from a 195 using the Hornady tools to do a apples to apples comparison. Using my comparator the 180 hybrids measure .574. Basically if I were building a reamer I would add .050 to the SAAMI if I wanted to shoot the 180ELDM and .100 if I wanted to shoot the 195s. Either way it makes no difference to me what others do but it is what I would do. As far as the OPs opinion that the throat of the SAAMI chamber is short I could not agree more but again I would not expect to have a custom throat in a production rifle.
I am measuring the bearing surface I can assure you. The problem is the hornady tools are not to .284 or .308, etc on the dot. The only thing they are good for is repeating your reloading. I do not have a 195 to measure but I seriously doubt its bearing surface is shorter than the 180 ELDM. I am not sure why you asked what the bearing surface was? I assumed you might have a measurement from a 195 using the Hornady tools to do a apples to apples comparison. Using my comparator the 180 hybrids measure .574. Bob Beck (so does the Berger spec sheet) says the bearing surface of the 195 is .096 longer than the 180 hybrid. Using the most apples to apples comparison I have that would put the bearing surface of the 195(hypothetical measurement with my comparator( at .670) Most guys I know building custom 28s are running somewhere around .280 freebore would would fall right in with the data I just provided.
