from JeffP40 : Jeff, you came down kinda hard on me for what you though was correct but actually is incorrect. We were hunting antlerless whitetails in a zone (& a year) which allowed non-resident (& I have to assume - resident) hunters to party hunt. We were allowed to harvest 4 antlerless whitetails on our two licences. I had shot three (the third was after he yelled at me to shoot since he didn't have a good shot at one that he'd scared out of a woods island) during the 1st two days. After my dad had so much trouble with sighting, resighting and resighting again he told me to shoot a fourth for him on the last day unless he got one. We both wanted to go home with our 4 deer so when I had the chance, I took it. The 4th deer was taken with only an hour or less of our season and my dad was happy that I got the shot. I don't "shoot everything that I see" nor do I EVER take a deer on someone else's license unless they want me to - IN ADVANCE. I've deer hunted for 54 years and have turned down 100's of easy shots because it wasn't the deer that I wanted that season or the shot wasn't a sure thing. I don't take chances with tough shots due to the percentage that I might miss or - worse - wound an animal and lose it. During these past 5 weeks of archery I have not released a single arrow at a deer. I've had 3 chances for perfect shots but decided to pass. I grabbed my camera instead and took some great videos and stills. I'm not worried about taking 1 or 2 deer this year. I'm just waiting until "it feels right". I'm still not sure why you came down on me so hard but I doubt that the forum managers approve of your tone.
