The reason for the development of the 45 ACP hasn't changed. I wouldn't feel bad about carrying a 5" 1911 in the woods in lieu of the 45LC. As far as hardball goes, I am not as concerned about coallateral damage as I am of ending the threat. I don't live in or frequent high density urban areas. I live where I can have horses at home.
I am an old school advocate of the 1911 with 230 gr hardball. I have 3", 4" and 5" 45 ACP guns. I am a small person and also have a S&W 640. Ask any CCP instructor which is the best and they will tell you that it is the one that is with you. Which one, depends on my dress. My preference is the 3" or 4" 45 1911 for street carry. In the woods, it is a 45LC S&W Mountain gun with hard cast 270 SWC's. I'm going for bullet diameter and penetration. BTW, I also have a Bond Arms 45/410 that I carry around the home just for rattlesnakes.
