[QUOTE="Fiftydriver, post: 106946, member: 10"] Skip AI, Dont equate bullet diameter to killing power at long range. Sure it has something to do with it but for the size of game you would be hunting, the 6mm is a great option as well. I assume you have a standard twist 25-06 AI currently. If you went with a 1-9 twist 6mm-06 you would see a ballistic improvement using bullets such as the 105 and 107 gr bullets. I would use the 105 A-Max for smaller game at long range and the 107 SMK for the heavier game. Ballistically, a 6mm-06 loaded with a 105 gr to top loads will ballistically smoke a 100 gr out of a 25-06 AI at long range. If you want to stay with a 25 cal or larger, there is nothing wrong with the 25-06 AI but I like a fast twist barrel instead of a standard 1-10. Wildcat Bullets makes some amazing 25 cal bullets. Starting with the 125 and 130 gr ULD RBBT and going up to the 142 gr ULD RBBT. There is also the 156 gr ULD RBBT but I personally feel this is to much bullet for the '06 AI other then for paper punching. The 142 gr ULD RBBT will offer higher BC then a 142 gr in the 6.5mm will and velocity will basically be identical. Just an option if you want to stick with the 25-06 AI since your already set up for it to load for. All you need is a 1-8 twist barrel and your on your way. You may be able to get away with a 1-9 but there are not that many out there and at the 25-06 AI velocities with the big 142 gr ULD RBBT I would personally go with a 1-8. The 6.5 and 280 versions are also great. The 280 needs quite a bit more bullet weight to be ballistically effective but barrel life increases as well, so does recoil so if you will be shooting alot, keep this in mind. Good Shooting!!
