[QUOTE="LoneTraveler, post: 1349556, member: 77249"] I like round balls for hunting. When our state started our first muzzle loader deer season state wide every one was raving over the TC maxi-ball as a hunting bullet. Our group shot several deer that year and spent a lot of time tracking deer, Even deer shot side to side through the ribs would go up to 200 yds. Two of us was using pure lead round ball. 2 shots 2 DWS deer. I have only recovered, 1 220 gr. .530 pure lead round ball, using 100 gr. FF powder, Pillow Ticking patch/bore butter, from a deer. It was a slightly quartering shot. the bullet was recovered in the opposite shoulder. That round .530 gr. pure lead round ball flattened to the size of a stack of 3 quarters. Chest looked like jello. My brother bought some 50 cal. round ball that must have been made from wheel weights. He shot a deer through the chest. it ran and stopped, Just as he got his rifle loaded and ready to take a follow up shot the deer fell over. When cleaning the deer we found a weird lump below the knee on the opposite leg. Cut the skin and out popped that 50 cal. round ball, in perfect shape. It was so round it could have been reloaded. I have my own .530 round ball mold. I have a supply of soft lead and I still pick up the ingots and hit them together to see which ingot dents the most, Then use that ingot for hunting bullets.
