Hi Boys, Been giving the sambar a fair going over in the last few weeks, with good numbers being seen on private land blocks. The grass is away and its my favourite time of the year to get after lazy stags taking advantage of the new growth. Arrived at my chosen vantage spot about 5.30 pm , around an hour beofre dark. A little after 6 pm had a string of hinds and calves pop through the old fence to mooch around in the lollie shop. I kept sweeping the bush line when a good size stag strolled out and stood against the fence , before leaping it and entering the playing field. Hitting him with the leica rangefinder put him in a sweet range of 400M so a quick dial up, no wind what so ever I lit the crosshair up on the NXS and settled for the shot. Boooomm Immediately I listen for the impact which echoes back with distiction and I know that he is in big trouble. I quickly jump back on the 15 x's to confirm his where abouts and catch him nose diving into the grass about 20 m from the impact spot. The EDGE took him down to Chinatown ! After getting with Brother inlaw on the phone we spend the next 2.5 hours lumping meat back to the truck which is a little over 1.5 kms away from the big stag. The antlers end up being a solid 26" model with nice tines and weight which I am very happy with. Its nice to finally take a stag on this block as I have seen alot of deer in the last two years without pulling the trigger. The Spring has only just begun too.... DUH
