I just wish id had a camera to take a pic of our faces with that hit, because im not sure who was more supprised. Shot almost 40 rds that day, but only connected 3 times. Now he in convinced he wants to hit something at that range with his SMLE in .303British. I told him we can zero the irons at 300, and use a dial caliper to raise the sight and probably be close... but maybe he needs a little more gun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and maybe a scope /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[QUOTE="abinok, post: 65701, member: 16"] I love the "first time exposed to LR" stories. Back in Feb, my brother in law came over to help me spot on out on some of our property. There is a place that is right at 1400yds that overlooks 2 ponds, and 2 small canyons. I invited him along because I needed help spotting hits (it had rained 2 days before). It was more play day than anything else so we were using coke cans filled with water stacked 2 high, figure a 2.5x8ish inch target. Set up a dozen then drove back to shoot. Dialed the elevation, and with no wind, broke the first shot. At the report, my brother in law exclaimed HAH you miss.... and the can exploded. Its one of those freak things, but he was so convinced there was no way, that he managed to call it a miss before it landed. Of course I was kinda shocked to get a first round hit, so I couldn't think of anything snappy to say back, best I could do was" don't you know, I never miss...." I just wish id had a camera to take a pic of our faces with that hit, because im not sure who was more supprised. Shot almost 40 rds that day, but only connected 3 times. Now he in convinced he wants to hit something at that range with his SMLE in .303British. I told him we can zero the irons at 300, and use a dial caliper to raise the sight and probably be close... but maybe he needs a little more gun.
