I just bought a use Criterion savage prefit in 6BR for $100. It is a 28" bull 1" at the muzzle. I called my gunsmith and ask about cutting it back to 24" and he cutting it to 24" will loose a little muzzle velocity but it has potential to be more accurate because a shorter barrel is stiffer and has less barrel whip. He said he used a 24" 6br for years shooting 1000 yard bench rest and done really well with it. So I wouldn't worry to much about the 24". So if it doesn't cost too much buy it and have fun.
