People like to blame the teachers and the school system. I have found that schools are only as good as the parents of the kids going to them. If the parents don't care, the kids don't care, and the school does not care. There was a lady living across the street from me who was a teacher. She quit and became a private tutor. The reason she quit was because she was basically being prevented from teaching. Kids can play on their cell phones, disrupt the class, and even physically assault teachers. If a teacher makes any attempt to discipline the student or even heaven forbid, take away their cell phone for the class period, the parents have a conniption. Its were people take something way to far. Parents don't want their kids paddled in school and as a result they have taken it to a point where teachers can't teach anymore. They are babysitters. I came to the realization that it was the parents because in the area where I live, there are public schools that far outperform private schools. People discovered that it makes allot more financial sense to spend more money on a house in a good neighborhood with exceptional public schools than to buy a house in an area where the public schools suck and pay for private school especially seeing as private schools are around $25k a year in this area. If you are willing to invest that much in your child's education then you truly care as do all of the other parents who decided to invest in their children and the school reflects that. You can pay an extra $2k towards your house note or you can give it to a private school. You don't get the money back from the private school but the prices of houses in those neighborhoods with good schools skyrocket so you can get allot of your money back. That being said, if you can't afford the neighborhood or to send you kid to private school, you are out of luck. All any caring parent can do is try to help educate their child because they are not going to get much of one if left up to the school system where the other parents could care less.
