[QUOTE="MN Rifleman, post: 825606, member: 69625"] Hi all. last fall i had a new barrel put on my .300 by a local gunsmith. i wanted a good solid, accurate barrel, and he only used douglas barrels, so he said an air gauge, 5 contour would be good. so i got the gun, and started handloading for it. i measure the chambers oal by seating a bullet down with the bolt. with a 175 grain Barnes LRX, i had a chamber OAL of 3.607. now that seems long to me from what ive read. a sierra Match King 175 gr. has a oal length of 3.530. all with trimmed brass. should i be concerned with this OAL? this an older rifle, 6 digit serial rem 700. maybe they meant for heavier bullets to be used in the barrel? the rifle doesnt honestly shoot that good with the Barnes LRX. im on the look for bullets that will shoot. i want to use lead free. i struggle to get sub MOA groups at 100 yet i can get my SD down under 10 in a 3 shot group. so im just not sure what to make of that. any advice would be great thanks.
