"A 2000 pound bomb does not do twice as much damage as a 1000 pounder. Traditionally, you can expect about half as much increase. So, 30-06 being @21% larger will yield about 10% increase in velocity with the same bullet, or about 250 to 280 fps. Is it better than a .308? Yes, in the right circumstances. I'm not trading my 06 for .308. Back in my caliber/cartridge challenged days, many prairie dogs and coyotes met their demise with my 30-06 loaded with the Sierra 110 grain hollow point.
