gr8fildog: Glad to hear back from you. My question was somewhat rhetorical in that I do have some idea as to why some scopes cost more than other scopes. I still shoot 40-year-old Leupold Goldring scopes because, as you said, I like the reticles. There was a visible difference in a Bushnell scope and a Leupold scope in those days. I have heard that Bushnell now makes good scopes that compare with the lower-end of today's "high-end" scopes. Since we are using car analogies, my wife drives a Porsche Macan Turbo. If you buy a Porche and there is any upgrade between engines and horsepower, there is a $20,000 plus increase just for the horsepower. Porche can do that because they are Porche, for crying out loud. I know the same thing happens with everything you buy these days. I can almost feel the price difference while driving the Porche daily, yet I believe Porche could sell that horsepower for about one-quarter of what it actually sells it for and still make a profit. My question is, since my eyes can not see the increase of quality in the glass and technology that would require such a drastic price increase from the same manufacturer for one scope vs. a higher end scope, is the cost worth paying? I have a new 340 Weatherby rifle, and I am looking for a scope for this rifle. Your patience and knowledge are very much appreciated. I hate to sound ignorant and picky, but this scope will sit in my safe most of the years I own it, and I would like to buy a scope I can afford that will do the job as a hunting rifle scope that my eyes will be comfortable shooting through. I have no intention of spending thousands of dollars more for the Porche of scopes just because someone else might actually be able to see a little better with all the technology. I hope that does not make me sound too stupid.
