If you like the performance of the 264 Win mag, there's no reason not to like the SAUM, WSM, PRC or SS or anything other case that throws a bullet out of the barrel at the equivalent velocity. If you like the "classic" belted mag case then build a 264 Win Mag. I don't have any strong feelings either way about belted case. If it's there great, if it's not there I'll be just fine. [QUOTE="yorke-1, post: 1531189, member: 11960"] You don't see more 264 Win mags floating around because people just don't want them, it's that simple. I know a couple guys with 264s and I had one for a while. In original factory rifles they were great for shooting light bullets fast, but original guns don't do well with the newer trend towards heavier and longer bullets. If guys building custom guns wanted 264s then they'd just build one, but fewer people build those compared to the other ones you mentioned. If a guy wanted to build a light weight rifle with low recoil for a fast 6.5, the obvious choice would be one of the short mags. The argument over short or long action is pointless, but a significant percentage of light weight rifles are built around short actions. That rules out the 264 Win Mag and opens the door for the PRC, SAUM, WSM, SS and any other short mag. From there it's just a matter of picking what works best for shooter. If he reloads and doesn't mind paying a premium for brass and dies, then any of them work. If he reloads but wants reasonably priced (under $100) dies then the options are a little more limited. Not to mention that it still comes in a distant last place when compared to the velocities from the other 6.5 short mag chamberings. If somebody is building on a long action then the 264 Win Mag is in the running. The problem is that it comes up short in performance when compared to other 6.5 mags that fit in the same action.
