I wasn't dogging your thread man, I meant to quote the gentilman above me that said "In all aspects a scope that reaches 25x is all you need for long range hunting. " I hate when people are looking for input and someone just jumps out and says "ALL YOU NEED" Which is why I added some of the most common "all you need" suggestions. I don't believe all you need is 25x I don't believe all you need is a 300WM I don't believe all you need is some blue jeans I DO BELIEVE, this is still America and if you want an 8-80, then get it, run it and if you love it, then great...tell someone to F-off. If you find that you don't love it, then pass it on to someone else and use it as a learning experience. I love magnification. I have run as high as 40x and find that the only downside is the low end zoom being typically in the 10x range....and the elevation adjustment is usually a bit lacking. I've rand 32x and it's a great LR zoom power but the elevation is still right at the edge of what I would like. A bit more would be better. The one I'm looking at how is the Bushnell XRS in 4.5-30x which i feel is an excellent low end for hunting, and an excellent high end for seeing what you want, for spotting for a partner, for using as a spotter if you need to, and I'm looking forward to running it. Both of the ones you're looking at are excellent optics, but they might not be the best choice for a LR hunting optic.
