Appreciate the replies...keep them coming. Here is my thinking about the .260. I recently got a Savage Model 10 in .243 and in a month and a half put 500 rounds down the gun. Never really considered the life of one is 1,400 rounds. Yikes...I am almost half way there in two months. :D Been having so much fun reloading and shooting at longer ranges I have developed an almost addiction. So I was convinced from lots of research that the .284 was the ultimate caliber. Then I found out it too has a short barrel life and I would want a break on it probably too. So, wanting a long range low recoil gun that I would be able to have many years (poor man...wish I wasn't) I decided between a 7mm-08 and a .260. Don't even remember why but picked the .260 (splitting hairs). I developed a speciality coyote load to save pelts in my .243 (Sierra 70 MK and low Varget) and it shoots fantastic. Developed another load for deer and it shoots fair but with the cost of TSX bullets I cannot really aford to keep refining it and don't feel the need for deer. So...if I get another gun to shoot a bunch...I will take it easy on the .243 Win and it will be around for years. What would the gun be used for? FUN. I guess all kinds of stuff. First, I have never owned a turret type scope just always got the turrets based on my bullet profile. So, I'll learn to use turrets. Will shoot at groundhogs as far as I can. May shoot a deer or two around 300 yards. Will shoot alot of paper, etc. Will not shoot F class. Will probably go with a Bushnell scope. Maybe someday if I have the money and this continues I will get a $3,000 + F Class gun but I am not at that level and will not be for a couple years I guess. Plus, my funds are tight being a single dad of three, etc.
