[QUOTE="Dave King, post: 41880, member: 3"] Several years ago I was up in Canada minding my own business when all of a sudden I was yanked out of my blissful fog by the shouted term "swamp donkey"!! Of course I reacted a little slower than anticipated by my rather excited and severely gesturing companion and subsequently got a lesson in critter names. This year I was introduced to another proper name for a common animal "hair pig"... there was less gesturing but an equally urgent call in my direction. When will I ever know all my animal/fish and whatever names?? Here are a few common names that had me confused the first time I heard them. animals: Swamp donkey Hair pig Whistle pig Sod poodle Tree rat Winged rat (2 varieties at least) drape ape fish: Scupper trout (not a real fish but it can be found in water) Chippewa river trout (or ??? river trout) inanimate objects: Connecticut (or Maryland) potato Leaverite How about some of the one's you all have heard.
