Reading this thread has stressed me out a bit. I have a knowledgeable friend at my deer camp who is a reloader and has a world of experience with guns. One day he pushed the saftey off on his Remington 700 to shoot a deer and the rifle fired as soon as he pushed the saftey off. After he got back to camp, he took it apart and found a little hard round weed seed in the trigger group. We both agreed that this little ball-shaped seed had gotten caused the discharge. The only thing keeping it from firing sooner was the saftey being on. After this he put in a new aftermarket trigger in his 700. I personally know of dozens of unintentional discharges with Remington 700's. I am glad that I have a Winchester Model 70 270 WSM. My gunsmith put an aftermarket trigger in and adjusted it perfectly for me. I cannot remember what brand it is, but I have complete confidence in it over the years used. I know the problem can be corrected. But I wonder why anyone would buy a 700 today when there are so many options with good actions, triggers and barrels available for the same or even less money. I think there are designs today that are better than the old 700, even though it has been very popular and has served many well.
