Alright, just spent the morning killing a piece of brass!!! Figured I would see how long the 88.2 charge piece of brass would last at that charge, so here's how it went! 1st round was the fireforming round, of course. My protocol was to load it in the house, walk out to my bench (15 yards from my house) and shoot it, then repeat. It's 72° in my house, 78° outside. The rifle is left out in the morning sun, and there is about 5ish minutes between shots. 1. 2992 fps, no bolt lift or clicker Neck sized only 2. 2992 fps, increased bolt lift, no clicker Full length sized, bumped shoulder .002", primer pocket felt same as new 3. 2991 fps, no bolt lift, no clicker Primer pocket felt the same, same brass prep. 4. 2971 fps, no bolt lift, no clicker Primer pocket felt maybe a tad looser? Still tight, could not pop it out by hand with trimmer pilot. Same shoulder bump. 5. 2980 fps, no bolt lift, no clicker Pocket felt same as the last round. Trimmed brass back to factory spec, about .013" of stretch so far, same shoulder bump 6. 2994 fps, no bolt lift, very light click at top Pocket felt slightly looser, still could not pop the Primer out by hand. Same shoulder bump. 7. 3012 fps, no bolt lift, very light clicker at top Was barely able to pop Primer out, but took significant force. Same prep 8. 2968 fps, no bolt lift, light clicker at top Was able to pop primer out with moderate force, but still was holding the primer enough for use. Same prep 9. 3026 fps, some bolt lift, light clicker at top I called it at this point. As I seated the primer with my RCBS hand primer, I could barely feel any resistance, and was able to pop the primer out with pretty light force. It still held it enough I could have shot again, but this is the point where I would trash the brass. After my initial trim after shot #5, it only stretched another .005" the next 4 rounds. So this load averaging 2991 fps would get 9ish rounds out of my 30 nosler brass......not too shabby! I at least know this is probably the top end of where I would want to be, I wouldn't go any hotter than this. Most my hunting temps aren't much warmer than what I was shooting in, most are significantly cooler, so that is comforting. I'm starting to get a good feel of this rifle!
