My daugter Samantha had an assignment to cut out pictures of things that start with the first letter of her name. My wife tells her to have Daddy help, so Sam comes over with one of my hunting mags. I tell her to get one of Mom's magazines, she insist on my magazine. So knowing better I let her pick out pictures of things she finds that start with S. When we are all done we have a collage that contains the pictures of; One unarmed soldier, a vintage picture of a ww2 soldier holding a 03 sniper rifle, silver coins, a scope, a over under shotgun, and to top it off she picks the Kahr Arms add with the slogan SLIM IS SEXY. I told her she couldn't use that picture, well she insisted on having the girl pic, so I cut that picture down to exclude the text and the womans lower half. Today she brings the work home and says she has to redue it. Low and behold the teacher left me a note saying "the silver coins and soldier are great, but exclude any picture containing weapons." Well I guess I expected as much. The new collage contains pictures of Scoby-do, salad, a girl swimming, shrimp, and 2 bowls of soup with spoons in them. Her new assignment will have a note attatched that says. " Mrs. Heinzen, I am sorry you did not approve of the content of the first assignment. The items were picked by Samantha, I tried to sway her towards using one of Mommys magazines but she insisted on one of mine. This leads me to wonder what my child is being exposed to in the public school system, that she would be led to pick pictures of men and women engaged in the patriotic act of protecting our Country, and practicing their right as bestowed to them by our founding fathers. I have marked out the soup spoons in the new assignment, as I could easily fashion these into "weapons". I would hate to have to help her with this assignment a third time." Respectfully yours, Jim See
