I shot this buck on the PA opening day. The buck was standing at 825 yards in thick brush. I initially saw him around 11AM and got set up to shoot. Dialed my elevation and windage (15.75 MOA/.5 MOA L). I dry fired on the buck and then got ready to shoot. As I did, he laid down. Four hours later he got up. I got back on my gun and squeezed. I rushed the shot while he was standing in the brush, miss. Shoot again, I hit and rolled him. He starts doing a slow walk on a tram road. I'm getting frazzled at this point. I add another .25 MOA elevation as he moved to 835 yards , he stops, and I send another. I see him hunch up in the scope and take a dive on the ground. Thinking ok good to go. I get across the valley and up the hill. I come upon the deer and he is still alive. Ultimately, I had to finish him off. After the fact, going over this in my head, I realized I didn't return my turrets to zero. I go look at my scope and come to find out my windage is at 1 MOA. This would explain why both my hits were far back and not in the vitals. I accidentally added my windage in twice. Once at 11AM and again at 3 PM when I shot the deer. Shoot and learn!
