I have had the great privilege of growing up and living in prime Moose country. At last count, I have shot 56 of the big cervids. In my hands the following chamberings have been used successfully. 22WRM [Camp meat in the 1960's] 6mm Remington, 257 Roberts, 6.5x55 Swede, 264 Win Mag, 7x57 Mauser, 280 Remington, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm STW, 30-30 Winchester, 300 Savage, 308 Winchester, 30-06 SPRG, 300 H&H Magnum, 308 Norma Magnum [my favorite] 300 Win Mag, 303 British, 8x57JS, 325WSM, 8mm Rem Mag, 338 Win Mag. I don't mind saying that the vast majority of these moose were shot with Partitions. For the 30 cal, here are my favorites: 300 Savage - 150 Partition; 308 Winchester - 165 Partition;; 30-08 - 180 Partition; 300 Mags - 200 Partition. I have also used [and like] 150-180 Scirocco II; 180 - 200 A-Frames; 150 - 200 Accubonds; In my 325WSM, the 196 ORYX from Norma is a great bullet. My 8 Mag gets 200 & 220 A-Frames exclusively. I found monometals work well closer in, but sometimes fail to expand at longer ranges...they need velocity. Obviously, as several have already stated, placement is the Key. Moose are not hard to kill. Run any decent bullet through their lungs, and the real work begins!! Regards, Dave.
