The purpose behind these new cartridges is to bring custom level performance to the average Joe. Yes you can build a .243 or 6mm Remington and shoot 105s at 3100-3200fps. You need an 8 twist barrel to do so, good luck finding an affordable and affective long range rifle with a fast twist in .243 or 6mm Remington, I’ll wait... The main problem is these cartridges were designed half a century ago with the intent of shooting 70-85gr bullets at high speed. Originally, the 6mm Remington was called the .244 Remington, and people complained that it wouldn’t shoot 85-100gr bullets well for hunting medium game because of the twist. So when Remington reintroduced the same exact cartridge but with a 9 twist for 100gr bullets, people had already moved on to the .243 and the 6mm never really took off. Now fast forward to today, with the 105-115gr heavy, high BC, bullets for 6mm. The SAAMI specs for the .243 and 6mmRem call for rather slow twists and again are designed around traditional soft point 85-100gr bullets. Rifle manufacturers just can’t make a .243 with a custom chamber and have it be considered SAAMI approved. Then when they sell new .243 ammo loaded to longer than SAAMI specs, people with 50 year old deer rifles will be complaining it won’t chamber or shoot well in their old 10 twist deer rifle. Now comes the 6mm Creedmoor, it’s not just a fad it’s actually innovative in more than just it’s actual design. You can sell Billy Bob his 6mm Creedmoor ammo with 100gr Core Lokts for deer in his light weight Savage rifle, or sell Johnny Tactical 108gr ELD ammo and let him bang steel way out there. It’s designed to handle modern bullets, in modern rifles, for as many purposes as possible. With the SAAMI reamer and ammo specs to work with anything from 75gr varmint bullets screaming along at 3500 to 108gr ELDs at 3000. It also does all of this while feeding and functioning in a 2.800” mag box.
