[QUOTE="green 788, post: 612931, member: 3781"] I've been tinkering with an old ATR in 270 I picked up cheap about a month ago. I was alerted by a friend of mine to possible issues with the bolt, and directed to this thread and a couple others... that initial photo of the separated bolt appears to have come from the 24 hour campfire forum. I did consider having the bolt tig welded at the seam between the bolt handle shroud and main body of the bolt, but in view of all the evidence I can find this would be totally unnecessary, and perhaps even ill-advised. I agree with the assertion made above by ferics that had there been a real safety issue with the bolt, Mossberg would have recalled these rifles... and they have not done so. This particular rifle is shooting very well, much better than I expected, and shows the propensity to be easily a sub-MOA rifle. I figured if it would hold under 2 inches at 100 yards I'd be pleased to carry it in the truck... but it's definitely better than that. Trigger isn't good... I'm used to about 2 pounds, but it's far from the worst I've seen. The bolt in the photo that has come apart doesn't appear to be of the same generation of the rifle I have. That main bolt body is blackened (either parkerized or painted), just like the bolt handle shroud. That bolt may be from one of the Raptors (is that what they were called), and earlier design... In any case, this whole matter of suspected bolt problems with the ATR has caused me to spend a lot of time on the 'net looking up info, and reading personal testimonies--good and bad--on this rifle design. Extractor issues are common, it seems... but nothing more than hear-say on bolts coming apart. So I'm convinced there's been much ado about nothing here... and if you have one of these rifles just use it like ya stole it and it'll probably serve you well. :) Been a long time since I've posted here, but thought I'd add these comments....
