Yesterday I was at the ralley in Albany NY. I managed to get parked and walk to the square in front of the State Cpitol building, scene of the crime that took place in the middle of the night Monday, by 11 am. At that time there was already a good size crowd that eventually grew to almost fill that square shoulder to shoulder. Being only a few yards from the speaker didn't allow me to move around to actually see how many BUT I can tell you from attending a few 'Sportsman's days' in the past few years, the crowd numbers this time were huge by comparison. Noticably absent was the TV media with the exception of YNN a NY regional news network and a few photographers with media credentials. The crowd while loud and vocal at times was always orderly. Tom King of The NY Rifle and Pistol Assoc. mentioned that there would be some courtroom things in the coming days. Hw also reminded all of us to keep our heads on straight. That one act of foolishness would carry dire consequences for many if not all. As expected, there were a number of Elected officials and others from across the state who expressed their horror and displeasure with recent events. Several made mention of State Sens. Greg Ball and K Marchione (sp) particular criticisms of the 'bill' and how it was shoved through the legislature. As a side note, Sen Marchione has a online petition going as step one to recall, recind, or otherwise remove the new law from the books. We were told by her rep, she was not there due to a death in the family, that the petition had gathered over 85,000 signatures as of late Friday. I'll put a link to it in another thread a bit later. One last thought before I have to get back to chores, Everyone, not just New Yorkers, write your legislators today Thanking them for their support if they are on our side. If they are not on our side, write them anyway and respectfully express dissapointment at their lost opportunity to serve their State and their Country as we expect them to. I sent one such letter recently to a local representative that resulted in a call and a hand written letter noting they would be re-examinig their position on the issue 'now that they were starting to get more diverse information from different sources. Were any other New Yorkers in Albany yesterday? Sound off with your comments and observations. I have to get back to chores now...
