I wouldn't put any stock in the Golden Bullseye award; it’s been given to plenty of lemons in the past. Having said that, my wife has an M18 in 6.5CM and I’ve been very impressed with it for what it is. The action is very fast, the trigger is great and the adjustments actually work, it feels good in the hand, it feeds and ejects reliably, and the accuracy is definitely there. Mauser guarantees 5-round sub-MOA groups, and it’s definitely capable of that with the right ammo. Downsides? While the action is actually quite smooth for the price point, the bolt has a kind of a mild “zipper” sound at first when you run it. It definitely does smooth out the more you use it, though, so I wouldn’t worry about it at all. The stock is cheap, of course, and it does mate to the action via an unconventional design. It’s easy to work on, that’s not a problem. There are no aftermarket stocks available. The biggest possible drawback I see is that there’s no telling how long they’ll be around. The market is crowded and they’re already being heavily discounted. That said, for the price you can get them at now, I think it’s the best deal on the market— IF you just want a great entry-level hunting rifle and aren’t hoping to build on it. The Tikka T3x is still king of the budget bolt actions, but it’s pretty rare to find a new one in the $400 range where the M18 lives. If you need a $400 hunting rifle, this is a great one to get. Buy a couple extra mags while they’re available.
