Copy that COBrad! State of the art is no slouch to be sure and for and average Joe one trip to a store that knows and deals in this hobby will yield a rig that is not only affordable but better than the leading edge stuff only a few years ago. Pursuit of an ideal always opens up the boundaries. Your idea about max Titanium content is spot on. Serious weight savings by going down that path. I put a Dragunov style stock on middle son's SKS and improved the accuracy and shaved maybe 1 1/2lbs. I was impressed enough to wonder if LR rifle stocks should head in that direction. Adjustable stocks have taken over MSRs and they compete on a level field now with the traditional stocks. Also noticed that Keltec (of all people) have a bi pod on their 223 semi that folds to form the fore-stock. Why can't we approach bipods that way? Lots of new stuff coming out all the time. If you can dream it we can make it. I've been developing a rifle in my mind based on a Ruger #1 & 28' barrel. The #1 & 3# rifles are an easy 5" shorter than a bolt gun. It would require a completely custom stock and I don't know how much trigger work can be done. Then there is the problem of fitting Talley's one piece ring and base combo to the barrel. Work in progress. Have to finish developing loads for my Savage in 375 Ruger w/ a factory installed 26" barrel first. Going to try to get a 3/8' bore bullet to fly flat out to five or six hundred yds and carry about a ton of energy @ that range. Looks like either the Barnes 250gr TTSX or the Nosler 260 gr Accubond might work. I will suffer the work to the greater knowledge of all of us. Pray for me!
