As far as the cartridges, I like the 204 most. As far as coyotes, I'd probably take the 22 Nosler as I tried to be more deligent on shot placement and angles with the 204 trying to avoid bone. I shot 32 gr VMAX in the 204 and shoot 55 grain Nosler BTs in the 22N. I know the 204 works, and I'm sure the 22N will as well, I just feel you gain a little more punching power with the Nosler when shots aren't perfect. Hope that helps.
I haven’t killed any coyotes with the 22 Nosler yet, only fox and groundhogs. The Nosler is devastating on fox fur, and thumps the groundhogs pretty hard as well. The 204 was wicked! They say speed kills and the 204 verified that. The coyote in that photo with the 204 was called in and shot at 32 yards. Frontal facing shot through the brisket. It melted it and it’s legs just folded up under it. When I retrieved it the internals sounded like soup sloshing. No exit hole. Similar effects on others. I didn’t like the way that barrel balanced out on the build and sold it and ended up getting into the Nosler instead going back. I just recently got back into a 204 but in a bolt gun. As far as the cartridges, I like the 204 most. As far as coyotes, I’d probably take the 22 Nosler as I tried to be more deligent on shot placement and angles with the 204 trying to avoid bone. I shot 32 gr VMAX in the 204 and shoot 55 grain Nosler BTs in the 22N. I know the 204 works, and I’m sure the 22N will as well, I just feel you gain a little more punching power with the Nosler when shots aren’t perfect. Hope that helps.
