[QUOTE="Xs24-7, post: 2706365, member: 85163"] The last time my son came calling with me it was -45 and I was worried he’d never want to go again. Out of no where he asked to go on Saturday, so we headed out to a spot close to home. I’ve called this spot in the past and always get responses, but they can be tough to get coyotes to break cover. We switched it up and instead of hunting the open field, we snuck down a drainage ditch that went down the middle of the bush they are usually in. We set up and I started running the call, about 5 minutes in, I saw the first 2 coyotes.c about 120 yards away through the trees. They moved off, and after about 5 more minutes I switched up to a pup in distress call and two coyotes again came into view. I was hoping they’d come closer so Connor could see them, but after a few minutes took the shot, hitting the coyote under the chin with the 17 WSM. When we went to recover the coyote, I left the call and my rifle, taking only my shotgun. Of course the first 2 coyotes were still in there, both giving me easy 80 yard shots…..if I had brought the rifle…oh well, they will still be there next time and hopefully we can get them in close!
