For your purposes I would say it would be appropriate. One of my co-workers put one on his father's 8mm magnum, I believe for a similar reason, as he wanted to keep his father's rifle in the same condition it was when he built it. Also, the 8mm magnum has significant recoil. He was nervous about the idea at first, but seems to be satisfied thus far. As far as harmonics, it certainly could cause accuracy to change, better or worse, or stay the same. It will likely affect poi, maybe a little, maybe a lot. I have one rifle that when I put a magnetospeed on it, hardly changes anything. Most of them change a little, another changes poi about 10 inches at 100 yards, and all accuracy goes to hell. The entire concept of doing a ladder test is to align a proper charge node with proper barrel harmonics, so if you are nitpicky enough about your loading, you will want to run another ladder to confirm a good load as your harmonics will change. Again, could make it better, could make it worse, there is no way to know until you test it. Either way, worst case scenario is you have to adjust your load and zero. On another rifle, putting on the YHM supressor changes POI about 10 inches vertically and 4 inches laterally, but tightens up grouping. Same can, same mount on another gun, 2" vertical 1 inch lateral. I have had small screw on muzzle devices change POI as well. Not something to sway you one way or another on your choice, just a consideration for when you switch over to having a muzzle device.
