On Oct 3 2020 I bought a new carbon fiber road bicycle; on my first ride the next day I was flying (35 or 40 mph?) on a slightly downhill road closed to vehicles and had two coyotes run out in front of me. Next thing I remember is the paramedics tending to me. I broke seven ribs, smashed my clavicle, and broke my scapula in several places. Had surgery the next day to implant metal along my clavicle. Had to cancel an elk hunt in CO and deer hunt in MN. Been in physical therapy six hours a week since. But I have been able to run since early December. I run four miles every other day; I ran four miles this morning at 5 am. I will be 62 in two months. My advice to anyone is to maintain your fitness. Step on the scale every day - keep the fat off your gut. Get your annual physical. Go to the eye doctor every year and get checked for glaucoma (I skipped four years since I had no vision problems - bad idea - I have glaucoma and have lost some field of vision in my left eye). Wear hearing protection always (I have major hearing loss in my left ear).
