I have a 20" heavy barreled 308 1-10 twist that ill be shooting 300 - 725 yrds. Targets and paper mostly. Its a difficult shooting lane that starts on my porch, across a sloped hillside for 200 yards then it slopes away (down) so that my next yardage marker is right at 380 and then its an almost flat field out to 610 yrds. As you can imagine, I get multiple crosswinds. This is looking east by the way. I have worked up a load for the 178 gr. Amax that is ok but i would like more velocity if I can get it. My load is 44gr of Varget in win cases with win primers. I'm getting 2565 fps with slight signs of pressure. My average deviation for 10 shot strings is in the low 40's. This is the best I can get from a 37.5gr starting point. I used a basic ladder test to get to this point. I am shoot this out of the Hogue stock it came with. I'm currently saving for a better stock. I have H4350, Retumbo and some IMR4350. I'm on a budget so i'd like to work with one of these but if I NEED to buy something else I will. Thanks for the help.
