The OAL gauge on these showed 3.078 so I moved the seating depth out from 2.950 to 3.028, giving a 0.05 jump and hoping I could squeeze a little more powder in. I had 3 bullets left, loaded 72.0, 72.5 and 73.0, found pressure immediately, with a stiff bolt and ejector mark for 72.0 grains for 3610 FPS , and a little more of the same at 72.5 for 3629 FPS, so I ended there. Yesterday's load at 2.950 COAL produced 3619 FPS with no signs of pressure, might be worth more testing. Temps have been the same the last couple days, mid 80's, high humidity. The powder is as stable as it gets. Seems like seating depth is the key.
I had a limited supply of the 120 HH to test in the 7 Max, (Steve was generous enough to throw them in the box when he knew what I was up to). Yesterday’s testing used up most of them, but I had a few left this morning to play with. The OAL gauge on these showed 3.078 so I moved the seating depth out from 2.950 to 3.028, giving a 0.05 jump and hoping I could squeeze a little more powder in. It’s kind of close tolerances to get the bullet seated decent with these little pills, but it loaded up ok. The results weren’t as good as the shorter loading from yesterday at 2.950. I had 3 bullets left, loaded 72.0, 72.5 and 73.0, found pressure immediately, with a stiff bolt and ejector mark for 72.0 grains for 3610 FPS , and a little more of the same at 72.5 for 3629 FPS, so I ended there. Yesterday’s load at 2.950 COAL produced 3619 FPS with no signs of pressure, might be worth more testing. Temps have been the same the last couple days, mid 80’s, high humidity. The powder is as stable as it gets. Seems like seating depth is the key.
