I agree we are hard on ourselves . I started doing most of my own work because I got tired of dealing with gunsmiths and being charged a fortune to do some quite ordinary work . Sometimes I would look at the work they did and be disappointed for the money . I have only finished wood stocks before painting is new to me. Howa is a good rifle I have one , a 1 of 500 celebration rifle in 223 , model is " Australian Mountaineer" You will not have heard of it in the USA it is basically a Howa 1500 with a select quality barrel . The history behind Howa rifles from Japan is that the original Howa's were designed in Australia by Commercial Marketing Company CMC . They were called the CMC Mountaineer . My rifle is a commemorative model of that history . That is the best I can remember. I work from my mind , I study a problem and develop possible fix's in my head and I mull them over and over in my head for a while , even in my sleep I can plan things and then select the most logical and common sense approach . Made a few mistakes but in general I end up with pretty much what the pros do anyway . Actually I can go to sleep thinking about a problem and wake up with the answer. Don't ask me how it works I have no idea.
