Long story short I went down a rabbit hole that started with just trying to shoot a bunch of old 150 grain bullets in my 270 win and stumbled onto the new at the time Reloder 26 that showed reloading data of over 3000 fps. Well I got the velocity and more but couldn't get a pattern under 2 to 3 inches with the Nosler 150 accubond long range bullets. Started doing the math on twist rate stability and it came out at needing at least 1:8.5. Decided to bite the bullet and bought a Proof Research Carbon barrel in 1:8 and 26" and chambered in 270 AI. I haven't hunted with it yet just got it back this spring and threw it in a new McMillan stock, haven't even bedded it yet and it's shooting .325 MOA with Fireforming loads at 3200 fps per the chronograph. Here's the target I shot on the first time shooting at a target. The first shot I wasn't quite ready yet (new light Timney trigger), the 2nd shot I wasn't loaded on the bipod right, the 3rd through 6th were nice shots with the same bipod hold, measured .325" at widest spread. So far it's been everything I hoped it would be and more!
