New to the forum but have been following this thread for a long time. Seems that most have custom rifles and 26" plus barrels. Alot are pushing 76 plus grains H1000 with extended COAL that will not feed from a factory magazine. So how does this work in a factory rifle, I wanted to find out. First off, I bought a Rem 700 5R Tactical Gen 2 in 300 win mag. I wanted it due to the 24" barrel and longer magazine. 26" barrels are like carrying a flag pole in the mesquite thickets. I tried many loads following this forum hoping for a magical .750 MOA out of a factory rifle. It didn't happen. 76.5 was max of H1000, Node was more in the 74.5 to 75.0. I was able to get two inside each other with one 3/4" outside several times. I tried several seating depths that would feed from my magazine. Usually 40 to 60 jump. I tried Lapua, Fed and Rem cases. Fed 215 Match, WLRM, Fed 215, CCI 250 primers. All with them same results. My factory Rem 700 (Timney trigger, bedded recoil lug) just would not digest it. I'm thinking that the short 24" barrel may have had trouble burning all the H1000. So I went back to the old RL22 with 210 Bergers. Not a great temp sensitive powder but it will work. First two holes on the right were the first two fired. The second two on the left were 3 minutes apart. Could be the hold on the rifle from an old fart but good enough to hunt these little coues. Personal advise to those looking to get the Berger 215, H1000, Fed215 combo to work in a factory rifle, you may want to stick to a 26" tube. Broz did an incredible job on this write up. A thesis that will be revisited for decades. I wish I could have gotten it to work for me.
