I was able to purchase what is a unicorn specialty pistol for me. Blaser R93 HHS with two 14" barrels (375 H&H and 308 Winchester). I remember seeing an article or two about these years ago. Since that time I have looked off and on to no avail. The 375 H&H barrel has one of Holland's older quick discharge brakes. I was happy that the one I purchased was set-up for a right hand bolt. Since the Blaser is a modular weapon, I could also purchase a left hand bolt if I wanted. Since I am a lefty, this one is perfect already. Trigger pull is nice, around a pound to a pound and a half-Haven't checked yet. The 308 barrel on it with a Leupold variable handgun scope. Even though I am going to have Darrell Holland put a radial baffle brake on the 375 and the 308 barrels, I just had to shoot the 375. I did a light cleaning on both barrels. I put a Leupold VX-3i (1" tube) 4.5-14 rifle scope on the 375 H&H barrel, and headed out to Dan's house on Tuesday afternoon. We didn't have much time, but we shot it 10 times. The very first shot was standing The second shot was seated with just a one hand hold. I started shooting intentionally at the 100 yard target on the 3rd shot. Made adjustments and shot again. Then Dan started shooting. I had planned to use a Harris bi-pod, but a friend suggested that with the 375's recoil, there was a chance I could rip the sling swivel stud out=Very expensive repair! Timely advice-Thanks! We used a PRS pillow bag, and a small Holland rear bag off the bench. We got it zeroed, and between the two of us shooting we managed a sub 2" group at 100 yards for 5-shots. The highest shot was right after dialing down. Three of those shots were in the 3/4" range We both got a sense of it. With the new Holland brake and using 248 grain Hammer Hunters, the 375 should have a little less recoil than the way it is now. I just have to kill a prairie dog with this 375 H&H....Just because! Yes, I will hunt big game with it too. I had two sets of 30mm rings come in for the HHS (Handgun Hunting System) yesterday. I will be putting a Leupold VX-5HD 1-5x24 CDS-ZL2 Illum. FireDot Duplex, on the 375 H&H barrel. I have not yet decided, what scope to go with for the 308 Winchester barrel. Hunting bullet options for the 308 Winchester will be in the 120-140 grain range (Cutting Edge, Barnes, and Nosler). Within a month or maybe a tad longer, I will have the new brakes on, and both barrels will have the scopes I intend to keep on there. I plan to have it with me for WY-SHOT for the folks to see and shoot it (308 Winchester)...There are not that many unicorns around.
