What I'm learning so far is this: Origin isn't cut for Wyatt's extended box so if I want to run heavy .300 win mag bullets or load them way out there, I would have to upgrade to SR3. Not a terrible idea since it has an integrated recoil lug instead of a pinned one and the firing pin is closer so a lighter bolt lift but a bigger financial consideration. The Kelbly Atlas is already cut for the extended box but doesn't have the controlled round feed (not a deal breaker for me) and you have to buy a separate bolt to run different calibers which is like $450 vs $125 for a separate interchangeable bolt head on the Bighorn/Zermatt actions. I would mostly run 180s on the .300 Win Mag so maybe I'm fretting too much over whether or not I'll ever need/use the extra room provided by the extended mag box.
Where did you end up on this .300 Dakota? I'm wrestling between a Kelbly Atlas and the Bighorn/Zermatt Origin action for a .300 Win Mag build that I can also use for .280 AI. I want to roll my own barrels too and both have shouldered pre-fit options.
