[QUOTE="wildcat westerner, post: 2536822, member: 21361"] Thanks for your input. After shooting several 338 caliber rifles, I really realized your talking artillery here when you are shooting 300 grain bullets at the really long ranges. I have seen incredibly flat shooting 6.5's get blown well off of aim despite high BC's and high velocities. So, my choice was dictated by bullet weight and the fact the wife of the barrel owner's wife tripped over it in his den when it was stored flat on the floor. Thus, after a spirited conversation between the couple it was decided the barrel was coming from Idaho to New Mexico and will be used only for early morning or late afternoon stands where I will be lugging it into place with my biathlon sling which is slung over both shoulders. The 338 Winchester, compared to the newer 338 cartridges seems almost puny. But in terms of efficiency , utilizing 200-225 grain bullets, loses some performance to vastly larger cartridges. I believe some of that performance will be gained back by the longer barrel and if I could get this Quikload cd working I can figure out which exact powders could gain best advantage of that very long barrel.
