It really depends on the night and the size of the object/animal you are trying to illuminate. But assuming an average night regarding brightness and no fog/rain/snow in the air. I have had good luck with it out to about 200 yards on coyote sized animals. It works further on bigger objects and objects that reflect. I have posted a couple pictures. The coyote is at approximately 200 yards and the badger is at approximately 100 yards. I believe both of these pictures are on 5x magnification.
