Hi, I have 6BR custom rifle that shoot very accurate. Avg. .300" 3 shots at 100 yards. (Rem 700P true action, McMillan A-5 with cheek piece, 28" Krieger barrel, 18lbs) I want it to be a switchable barrel rifle. 6BR and 284 Win (Lapua brass). Mainly used for F-Class competition (600m and 1000m) and medium long range hunting. (ground hog and deer). When it is windy, I'll switch the barrel to 284 Win. I asked the gunsmith for estimate cost for a new barrel, chamber, and threading. I live in Canada and it costs a bit more. Broughton/Kreiger SS 32" : $500 Chamber: $200 Threading for brake: $ 90 Flutes: $190 Total: $980CAN, not USA $ (USA $ is about $900) I thought about it. Almost $1,000 for high-end barrel. I thought why not buy Savage Model 12 F-Class Precision Target with 30" barrel (6.5x284) for about $1400CAN. It comes everything except scope. (may not shoot as accurate as custom barrel). Needs to shoot under 1/2 MOA. I prefer 284 over 6.5x284 for last longer barrel. Your thoughts? Better to have a switch barrel with the same gun (custom barrel) or buy a new gun for different caliber? Price wise....
