My modest & low budget expectations for engaging targets up to 1,000 with my 8 twist 6.5 PRC & 6.5-06 will use the 140 Hornady ELDM bullets @[S] 2775 -2875[/S] 2875- 2925 fps with 57.5 - 58.0 grains of Staball HD & CCI 34 primers. I am concerned with brass life & bolt thrust. I will also use 6.5 147 Hornady ELDM bullets. These bullets have pointy plastic tips & provide adequate Sg values using slower twists than long pointy open point bullets - Miller stuff indicates adequate Sg's with 8 twist. Hornady 4DOF indicates adequate stability with 8 twist using 140 & 147 ELDM's. I have a modest amount of SB HD & Hornady 6.5 PRC brass & my LGS sells both. I hope to shoot milk carton size (1/2 gallon size & smaller) rodents at extended ranges. Real good accuracy, 4 in same hole & 1 almost touching at 100 for numerous groups. Extreme spreads less than 20 fps. Use of Hornady ELDM & ELDX bullets might be indicated with an 8-twist barrel. I can provide Sg values with the pointy plastic tip Hornady bullets. If I had to drop a big tough target I would use my .300 WM with 200 grain bullets.
