I understand. Here is the scoop, if I was pushing a 140 Berger to ultra high velocity I would not recommend it for shots under 100 yds. But a 300 gr Berger OTM at 2800 MV... No problem even at 50 yards. This is why use the largest bullet I can get. I send fragments into the vitals and destroy them and the 1/2 or so that is left blows a nice hole out the other side. I have never recovered one at any range. Have you seen this thread? http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f17/lets-see-your-berger-kills-94959/ Toward the end there is a pic of one recovered from a 25-06. Looks perfect to me. I don't want to talk you into anything. Use what you are confortable with. It is your hunt. But don't believe the BS!! I have plenty of Berger kills and I know first hand. My experience has been way worse with other bullets not expanding. I need to get out and prove how far one of these 300 Bergers will penetrate by taking a 3/4 shot or something. But I am not typically an *** shooter. I can tell you this, no elk has held one for me yet broadside, even under 300 yrds. Jeff
