I just happened to stumble onto this post. I've been running a 338/375 Ruger out of an 18" Savage Striker for about 18 months now. Rigmaster10's numbers seem high, but they are right in line with what I've seen. I'm getting 2650fps with a 250gr Sierra MK and 76.5gr of H 4350 from an 18" barrel. This is with an OAL that will feed from a Savage standard long action magazine. That's a pretty mild load, but I'm getting groups in the .3" range and I get 6-7 firings from a single case. The next load I hope to try now that I a little more time is the 225 TTSX over RL 17. Since my gun is set up as a mid-range hunting gun (under 500) there's really no reason to run a 300gr MK or something similar. I would rather have superior terminal performance of a true hunting bullet than the superior ballistics of the MK. The Lapua will win in an apples to apples comparison using heavy bullets. There's just no beating cubic inches when it comes to raw power. The difference is less significant with the lighter bullets though. If you don't need to run the 300gr bullets at 2900fps the Ruger case would work well. Based on what I've seen, I expect the Ruger case to move a 300gr bullet at around 2750-2800 from a 28" barrel. Which still isn't bad if you ask me. Andrew
