Hey all, just thought I’d share my findings with the first powder I’ve tested in my savage 111 long range hunter 300 win using the 225 eld. Using imr 8133 powder, seated to coal of 3.58”. Not touching the lands yet. Having some issues with the tips being deformed in the standard die (which hornady notes will happen) if seated any shorter than this. Bullets are coated in hbn. Federal 215m primers, Winchester brass. Very heavily compressed, went all the way up to 80.0 grains of powder (and no I don’t have a drop tube) with no pressure signs. I might try a faster burn rate powder, next two are 7977 and h1000. I found a node of sorts. Going from 78.5 to 80.0 grains only increased velocity by 30 FPS. So I settled on 79.0. Didn’t get time to do any serious accuracy testing or chrono a ton of rounds for meaningful sd numbers. Chrono reading average of 3 shots is 2760 fps (right around 3800 foot pounds or so). With the brake, the weight of the setup, and the big squishy recoil pad it still kicks way less than my .270.
