I have a 300 Weatherby Mark V German made with a 26 inch barrel purchased in 1973. One of the last German made Mark V’s before production was moved to Japan. I loaded Hornady 165 and 180 grain spire points for years until 2002 when I switched to the original Barnes all copper TSX with the blue coating for a trip to Africa. These knocked down all the big plains game with authority including oryx, kudu and wildabeast. When Barnes added the grooves I switched to those and started using the tipped version in 150 grain TTSX. I found I did not need 180 grain Bullets since the TTSX retain most of their weight and drive deep. These have been very effective on mule deer, whitetails, Dall sheep and black bear. I zero for 300 yards and use a custom turret for longer shots. I practice out to 600 yards but prefer shots under 400 yards. My longest shot on game was a whitetail at 500 yards and the bullet knocked the deer right down. I use H-4831-SC and drive the 150 TTSX to 3200 FPS. A mild and accurate load in my Weatherby.
