Les, you're on the right track when talking berger VLD for long range. I have a Rem 700 in 300wby with a 27" lilja on it. Initially I worked up a great load with 180 Barnes TSX bullets, they were very accurate and fast. The load was Rem brass, Fed215GM primers, 80.5grns RL22, bullets seated to a COAL of 3.510. This produced around .5 moa running at 3300fps. I discovered as I began to shoot farther and farther out to 1000m that the hard monolithic bullet was NOT what I wanted to use on game at those distances, to 650m or 700m yes. I went to the 210 berger VLD and will probably never use anything other than bergers after seeing all of the one shot kills this last season. The 210 is a little heavy I think for the wby, but the 185vld or 190vld is a great choice. My wby will be a RUM in a few weeks, significantly more speed with the 210's. Hope this helps
