I have been down this road. I am guaranteed to not help you make any decisions whatsoever. I ended up building a 338 LMAI. I built a shorter barrel version, as I used it for suppressed hunting. It wears a 26 inch LRI (K&P). For me, it has been insanely easy to tune and find loads for. Virtually every bullet and powder combination has a 1/4” load. I settled on a 300 grain a tip and N570. I do run these at CIP mag length. I am running nowhere near Max, and it is cruising the a tip at around 2960 fps. If I would have went with a 28 or 30 inch barrel, I’m sure my velocity would be more impressive. When I shoot this barrel out, I have no plans to leave this cartridge. It is truly the best cartridge I have ever owned. All of this being said, the 300 NMAI Would be an awesome round as well. The 250 A Tip is incredible! Every time I see a thread like this, I convince myself that I need one as a sister cartridge to my 338.
