I picked up the 28 Nosler from the smith last Thursday and had it to the range yesterday. I loaded a few of the 175 ABLRs with some US869 starting loads (90.0 grains) to get it on paper and to calibrate the powder burn rate. They ran 3,050 fps which is a tad over 3,600 foot pounds at the muzzle. I was kind of surprised that the primers showed no flattening at all and the bolt opened like there was nothing in the chamber so this beast has got a lot of room to run. I have since loaded up a ladder with some 168 gr Barnes LRXs. I have several rifles where Barnes bullets shoot under 0.5 MOA if you run them around 3,180 fps. I'm just going to run them there and see what happens. If all goes according to plan load development will be over and done right there - at least for that bullet. I'll also be running some Bergers and ABLRs (why not its a hobby). I have to compliment Nosler on the free bore they selected. I don't have a print but the reamer measures 0.317" and handles all the big bullets without cutting powder space. Not that this is an issue with this chambering - my fired cases hold 102.1 grains of H2O. I'm starting the LRXs 0.040" off. The round looks long at 3.5" but fits the mag so all is good. Action: Sako L61R Barrel: Krieger SS #5 bull sporter, 1 in 8 twist, 5R, finished at 26" Muzzle Brake: Vias Scope: Leupold VX6, 3 to 18 Reamer: Manson SAAMI standard
